  • What we can do
    • Install low flow shower heads
    • Purchase energy/water efficient appliances
    • Install low flow faucets
    • Install low profile/water efficient toilets
    • Check sprinklers for leaks and broken sprinkler heads. Biggest water savings can come from outdoors.

  • Be mindful to run faucet water only when necessary.
    • Take shorter showers.
    • Be mindful of long hot showers.
    • Using a cool or even a cold water rinse in the shower boosts our metabolism. Lose weight in the shower! Who knew?
    • Turn water off while brushing our teeth and washing our faces.
  • Be mindful when watering lawns. Better yet, replace lawns with natural, low maintenance ground cover, butterfly/bee gardens or mulch to hold in the water.
  • Ask your favorite restaurants to serve water upon request. Not everyone in a party will drink the water.
  • One of the best ways to reduce our water consumption is to reduce the amount of meat we eat. Say What??
    • It takes approximately 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef.
    • It takes approximately 815 gallons of water to produce one pound of chicken.
    • It takes approximately 1,630 gallons of water to produce one pound of pork.
    • Limiting the number of days in which we consume meat, reduces the amount of meat that will be manufactured, reducing the amount of water used during the manufacturing.
  • Reduce bottled water usage.
    • Be mindful of the half empty bottles of water that remain after a party.
    • Use the leftover water to water house plants or the garden.
    • Be mindful of tossing plastic bottles filled with water into the recycling bin or trash.
